Welcome! I’m so excited to document your family in the place that means the most—your home. My approach to photography is all about comfort and authenticity, ensuring that the moments we capture feel natural and true to your family’s unique dynamic. This guide will help you prepare for your session, answer common questions, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Preparing Your Home for the Session

There’s no need for a picture-perfect home—your family’s love and connection are what truly matter. I recommend choosing a few well-lit areas where you naturally spend time together, such as the living room, kitchen, or a child’s bedroom. A quick tidy-up—like clearing clutter from surfaces—can help keep the focus on your family. Cozy details, like blankets, favorite books, or a few fresh flowers, can add warmth without feeling staged.

What to Wear

Comfort is key! Since these sessions take place in your home, I recommend wearing outfits that feel natural and reflect your style. Avoid logos and neon colors, but otherwise, wear something that feels like you. For color palette inspiration and ideas on coordinating without being too matchy, you can reference my What to Wear Guide for Couples.

You're welcome to change outfits during our session, or you can stick to just one. I do recommend having a backup outfit (or two) in mind—especially for newborns, since they tend to get messier than usual during photo shoots.

If you’d like feedback on outfit choices, I’m happy to help!

Including Pets

Pets are part of the family, and I love including them in sessions! Whether they’re snuggled up on the couch with you or playing in the background, they bring an extra layer of personality to your photos. If you’d like your pet involved, having treats or a favorite toy handy can help keep their attention when needed.

Helping Kids Feel Comfortable

At-home sessions are perfect for children because they’re in a familiar, relaxed environment. There’s no rush—we’ll take our time so they can warm up naturally. I encourage activities they already enjoy, whether it’s reading a favorite book, building with blocks, or running around in the yard. Keeping snacks, a drink, and comfort items like a beloved stuffed animal nearby can also help little ones feel at ease.

What to Expect During the Session

Our time together is unhurried and pressure-free. I offer up to two hours of coverage, allowing everyone to ease into the session naturally. Instead of stiff poses, I’ll guide you into comfortable, real interactions—playing games, baking in the kitchen, or snuggling on the couch while reading a favorite book—so your photos reflect authentic moments of connection.

If you have a newborn, our session will be especially relaxed and baby-led. We’ll document the quiet, intimate moments—rocking your little one in the nursery, soothing them to sleep, or simply soaking in those first tender days as a family. Whether it’s capturing tiny fingers wrapped around yours, a mid-feed cuddle, or siblings gently meeting their new baby, I like to focus on the genuine connection in this new chapter of your life.

After the Session: What Happens Next?

Once our session wraps up, I’ll carefully edit your images. Within a week, you’ll receive a preview so you can enjoy a first look at some of your photos. Your full gallery will be delivered within 6–8 weeks, filled with high-resolution images that you can download, print, and share. I also offer a selection of beautiful keepsakes, including high-quality prints, a variety of album styles, and framed pieces designed to complement your home— all available to order directly from your gallery.

Final Tips & FAQs

  • When is the best time for light?

I’ll help you choose the ideal time of day for the most flattering natural light in your home and yard. If you send me a photo of the main spaces you want to use at the times of day you think the light is best I can offer feedback! Typically two hours after sunrise up until about 10:30 AM or from 3 PM until about two hours before sunset are the best windows of time for window light.

  • What if my child isn’t in the mood?

We go with the flow! With a relaxed approach, kids have space to be themselves, and I’ll capture beautiful moments no matter what. Allowing them to warm up slowly rather than trying to force smiles or poses is always more successful.
